Crawl Space & Cold-Floor Fixes in Missoula, MT

Insulate rim joists, crawl walls, and floors so inversion-cold stops pooling under your house.

The classic Missoula complaint is a floor that never warms up. During an inversion the coldest air in the whole valley settles at the lowest point, which is exactly where a vented crawl space or an uninsulated rim joist sits — so that dense, cold air pools right under your living space and pulls heat out of the floor all winter. Leave a crawl space vented here and you've effectively parked a slab of valley-floor winter directly beneath your joists — cold floors, wasted duct heat, and real frozen-pipe risk all follow from it.

The fix is to close the crawl off from that pooled air. Closed-cell foam on the rim joists and crawl-space walls air-seals and insulates the perimeter in one step and doubles as a vapor retarder against ground moisture, so the space and its plumbing stay in a stable range instead of tracking the valley floor. On a floor over an unheated garage or an open pier foundation, foam applied to the underside of the subfloor breaks the same cold path directly. Most homes feel the difference in the first cold snap.
